Vishal Bhardwaj defends Imran Khan, says ‘we are conditioned to believe he’s a weak actor’

Filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and music composer Vishal Bharadwaj, who is known for films like Maqbool, Omkara, and Haider, has opened up about the film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola starring Imran Khan and Pankaj Kapur. The filmmaker explained the reason behind unusual casting and also revealed how most of his projects were being shelved at that time.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Vishal explained that the role was not initially offered to Imran. He said, “The role was to be initially played by Ajay Devgn and he left this film for Son of Sardar. It was such a long time ago, we both have forgotten this. But there was so much anger in me because of the number of films I have made, the double of that have been shelved including Midnight’s Children, which was very close to my heart. And whoever was available at that time, I made the film with him.”

Talking about Imran, Vishal said, “I feel we all are a bit biased. We have been conditioned to think a certain way about Imran. I am not saying he is Uttam Kumar or Dilip Kumar, but we have been conditioned. He has never said that he is a weak actor.”
